I talked to a small-time VC the other day about my idea. Unfortunately, he and another guy thinks that it’s not good enough and the market is already saturated. Stubborn as I am, I’ll move to Plan B, which is to look for people/friends who will help me code the website. Or perhaps Plan C, which is to code it all by myself. Problem is, I’m not as good as Paul, Ben, Kevin or Matt. Also, I’m busy as a bee this month.
In another topic, they asked me what I think about Eskwela.com. I told them that it will be a hard sell. Why? Because this a Friendster country. Even if Friendster’s a bust, it’s still the social network of choice by most Filipinos. And how can they monetize it? Even the highly-trafficked Pinoyexchange can’t seem to do so.
Yes, people may register and add some friends, but after some time, they’ll abandon and forget about the website. Even if they add all the schools down to the daycare level, I still think it won’t work. Unless we become a first-world country overnight where computer is affordable and internet access is readily available. Still, I’m rooting for it to succeed since the developers are from Diliman.
